Hi All!

I'm sorry it's been so quiet on here, I've just been very busy here lately. I will be updating the site in the very near future.

As you all know, the three hottest girls in SA; Nicky, Kesha and Deidre, have formed a super-girl-group with their initials as their name. NKD have released their debut album, What's That Noise, and their first video, What I Believe, is available to watch at www.youtube.com

I'm sure you'll all agree, they're the hottest trio since...ever! Support them in anyway you can, which means: buy their album!

I've had some very interesting revelations with regards to getting news about the girls, which got me very excited. Excited enought to pass out at my computer as I read it. The lady herself, yes, Nicky de Lange, has contacted me with her email address, so I should be able to post up-to-date news about her and the band's exploits. Not to mention, more pics, if I'm lucky. I can't promise anything, but keep your fingers crossed and keep checking the site.

Hello all you devoted Nicky fans!

I realise it has been awfully quiet round this neck of the woods of late, but as the immortal Mick Jagger said; "you can't always get what you want". Sorry, musings over how great the Rolling Stones are/were shall cease beyond this point. Maybe this point. I'm not intoxicated, I promise. Unless you count intoxicated as being drunk with joy. Coz that's what I am. I received news the other day, from Comrade Conrad at the Deidre Blog (a most exquisite fanpage if I might add), saying that there has been a group of mind blowing awesomeness formed. Three of the most talented, sexiest, spunkiest girls you could ever imagine have colluded to bring the music industry to its knees. And to its knees I mean in the form of kneeling in admiration and awe to worship what will become the greatest South African export since Charlize Theron, Kerry McGregor's WonderBra(C) adverts and, well, me.

The group, consisting of Kesha Charlton-Perkins, Deidre Visser and our one and only Nicky de Lange, are, according to Conrad (a most reliable source), in the process of recording an album with Dave (Dave, the cool judge from Idols who didn't receive the credit he deserved for being the most balanced, impartial judge on the show) that should hit our stores (and blow our brains out - in the most pleasurable way that is) later this year. I can't wait!

Well, as has been proposed on Deidre's site, the group hasn't (at the time of writing this) officially got a name. So, with all the creative minds out there reading this, I'm sure we, as a fan community, could come up with something. I mean how hard can it be? If you'd like to submit your ideas, please feel free to do so in the Comments thingie down there some where >>>

If your name isn't chosen, don't complain to me. It's not my fault that you're unoriginal or lack any imagination. KIDDING!!! Not about the no-complaining part though. This site is protected.

I look forward to hearing your ideas.

In other news, it was brought to my attention by the ever observant Will that Nicky appeared in the April issue of Sarie in the Winter-Fashion supplement. Thanks Will for pointing that out. I promptly bought the magazine and recommend that you all do the same (even if you are not Afrikaans, there are some great recipes in there too). Not only are the pictures brilliant and the first original material I've seen in months, Nicky is mind-blowingly hot! I hope she doesn't mind me saying that. She looks absolutely beautiful in the photos, particularly the close-up. Unfortunately I can't upload the images (due to copyright reasons), but I'm making progress. I might have some exclusives if I'm lucky. Fingers crossed. All the more reason to buy the Sarie. They should give me commission damnit!

I hope Nicky does appear in the FHM 100 Sexiest. She should be a model, the Sarie pictures prove that. She is so photogenic it's unbelievable.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and Happy New Year!

I know it's a "bit" late, but I've been having problems with the blog. I had made some lovely posts to wish you all the most jolly festive season, but I've had no luck.

I'm terribly sorry. I realise your lives have been empty with the void created when Nicky left our TV screens. I feel your pain. I want to get the blog back up and running. I've had some nice stories from Stefan and others that I'd like to put up in the next few days. My life has been pretty hectic of late, so please excuse my lack of updates.

I must confess, I don't know much about Kwêla, so if anybody could enlighten me as to what went on, I'd appreciate it. She's also wearing that necklace again, if anyone could enlighten me about that, I'd appreciate it too.

If somebody else has thought of this previously, please just pity my ignorance, but I realised the other day that if you move the 'L' in Lange to the end, you have: angel. No surname could be more appropriate.

The most appalling piece of journalism...

Reading today's (Friday 2nd December) Mercury, I came across a piece entitled 'No awards for good behaviour' in the styleLife section of the Durban paper. In it the author, Omeshnie Naidoo, picks apart each of the contestants for their behaviour at the Idols after party in what could be considered slanderous.

She starts off by berating Karin for being rude and "snubbing" the after party. Lady, she has a son to worry about, is it wrong to be a responsible parent?

She rips off Deidre for being on her cellphone the entire evening - I admit, not an overly polite thing to do at a party, but come on, she's a teenage girl for heaven's sake! She rips off Martelize for being "too flirty with a certain member of the press" (wasn't me unfortunately). She even has time in the article to ridicule and sledge Colin Moss and Heinz Winckler. It's as if this woman's only job was to find flaws in people. She seemed to forget that these are still young people, they aren't professionals (yet) - the competition thrust these people into the limelight. At least they're not doing a "Russell Crowe" and slapping people with phones.

What really made me angry though was this segment: "[G]rade 12 pupil [Nicky] De Lange has probably never heard the phrase 'under-age drinking'." This is a shocking statement. To accuse someone of under-age drinking in a newspaper is ridiculous, particularly when they are actually of legal drinking age! She's 18, you stupid [strong word inserted here]! If you are going to be a reporter you must get your facts right before accusing people of such things! Nicky actually would have every right to sue you! It's called slander. To put someone in such opprobrium (look in the dictionary Ms Naidoo) by means of such calumnious, defamatory untruths is seriously appalling. I'm going to be writing an email to the paper, and I hope this "reporter" withdraws her comments. Actually I expect her to withdraw her comments.

Is it the sole job of the press to bring down people who've been more successful than the average person? "You know what I'm going to do today? Tarnish someone's thus far respectable image so that I can get a kick out of it, 'cause I'm not as good as they are." As they say, jealousy makes you nasty.

Returning Home To Bloem

The kind folks at OFM (www.ofm.co.za), the Free-State's finest radio station, have some pics of Nicky's return to Bloemfontein on their website. She was met by several members of the Cheetahs rugby team, including Naka Drotské, Willem de Waal, Barend Pieterse and Alwyn Hollenbach. They even brought along the Currie Cup for the ride. A very nice gesture from them, she showed her support for them, they returned the favour. I must confess, being a Natalian, I am a Sharks fan, but big up to the Cheetahs for that. Good men, I was glad when you beat the Bulls.

No, not a song by EMF in the '80s, but rather the voting results. They are completely and utterly rubbish and unbelievable. Thanks to Simone for bringing these to my attention:

How could she have gone from being the second most popular in the Top5 pulling 25% of the votes, whilst Gift pulled a mere 16%, to 23,87% in the Top 4, whilst Gift pulled 29.8%???

It begs the question, where did all those supporters come from? Nhlanhla fans? No, they were too few anyway, even if you put every single one of them to Gift you still wouldn't have enough to make that amount. These are dubious. Considering the landslide margin by which Karin won in the Final, it still shows that Gift wasn't as popular as the Top4 results say he was. I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, screaming "rigged!" but these are very dodgy.

There is only one thing we could have done, voted more for Nicky. According to those results I would have needed to have voted 106,045 times to secure Nicky's place in the final. I wish I had! With the amount that would have cost I could've bought Nicky a record contract - well with Telkom's charges anyway.

Telkom, you know we love you. We just wish you'd charge us more for ADSL, we can't get enough of paying 48 times as much for a service than India or Nigeria.

Idols Finals

Well, with this series of Idols over you'd think that the blogs devoted to its contestants would suddenely cease to be. If you'd thought that, in most cases you'd be right. However the blog for one of the twelve will not follow the norm. You see, we here at http://nickydelange.blogspot.com have faith in our fav and, seeing as ours is the most promising of all the contestants, will be continuing normal functioning.

As more news, media, photos and information of Nicky (which there is sure to be) comes out, rest assured you'll be able to find it here. There might be a quite patch whilst Nicky finishes her Matric between now and February/March, but after that expect there to be much hype surrounding the young starlet.

I am relying on you, the reader, to be active in your pursuit of information and media of Nicky as I, being from Durban (that little place by the sea), haven't got access to any first-hand photos or news. Whatever you find, please send it to me - my email address is rickystarkey@gmail.com. Keep up your support of Nicky - she deserves it. Whilst others fade into relative obscurity, Nicky will keep shining - you can be sure of that.

Tonight, well, you know what happened. The end, it finally came. Tears were shed. Harsh words were said. But in the end we unfortunately had to say goodbye to Nicky from the competition, even under dubious circumstances. I don't want to rant and rave about it - it'll just spoil the success that Nicky has had and the excitement, laughter and pleasure that we gained from her time on the competition.

Nicky, if you're reading this, know one thing: we love you and are always behind you in whatever decisions you make in the future. You've been a joy to watch and a pleasure to listen to. We're just so sorry that it came to an end in the competition. When you release your album rest assured that it'll be bought by the many fans you have. We're sorry we didn't do enough to help you win. Hope to see you in the spotlight soon and I'm sure that the experience you've had on Idols and the publicity you have received will stand you in good stead and help you to become an Idol, competition or not. I cannot stress the importance of voting even more. It is crucial that everyone votes for Nicky - as much as humanly possible. Keep her in the competition and help her win - she deserves it. She's the only developing talent left in the competition. Nicky and Gift deserve to be in the final together, they have both improved since their auditions and are youthful, spunky, good looking and talented. The epitome of what an Idol should be. Help Nicky win - vote!

I enjoyed both her performances this evening. Her first performance seemed a bit rushed, and I don't know about you, but to me she seemed pretty breathless near the end of the song and I think the audience thought the song was over and began cheering loudly before she was finished. Nonetheless it was still a great performance - her second song was even better though. She sounded controlled and hit the high notes well (with maybe one exception; when she carried the note a bit too long at the end and there was a bit of a warble). Over the last two shows I've noticed a slight "scratchiness" when Nicky sings lower notes - it's only recently developed, maybe due to an over-strained voice. The scratchiness isn't necessarily a bad thing - as many singers do do that - and it actually sounds quite good; maybe something to add a distinctive appeal. Maybe I'm being a little over critical and perhaps slightly pedantic, but it's just because I care and I hope she wins. She is the soul of the competition.

Nicky you were phenomenal tonight. Jy is die beste en ons is baie trots op jou. Keep up the good work - we'll be seeing you in the final.

Seeing that Nicky is the contestant with the smallest fanbase in the Top 4; I would like to make a statement!

Why did you vote for Nicky?

Because:

1. She was sassy.

2. Sexy

3. Young talent

4. Amazing personality

5. Phenominal stage presence

6. Extremely beautiful voice

7. Took notice of her fans

8. Sexy (Again!)

People; Nicky is the only one left in the competition who still has these qualities. I beg you, please vote for Nicky!! There might be two contestants going home this coming Monday, and seeing that Nicky has one of the smallest fanbases, she might be in danger! Previous Performances

For those of you too lazy to sift through the Idols website; here are a couple of pics of some of Nicky's previous performances. My favourite being her 'My Immortal' performance (great rendition). A few more like that will help Nicky win for sure. I still maintain that Nicky could pull off nearly any Roxette (and to an extent Annie Lennox/Eurythmics) song. Mostly "higher" notes which Nicky can achieve easily, also not too fast ('Just a Little Bit' required more than one singer). Whatever her choice I'm sure she'll perform it brilliantly.

By the way, Gareth was horribly discombobulated when he said her first performance was "awful". What kind of stupid comment was that? Anyone who agrees with me say "aye". Awful? He must be smoking something.

Nicky, if you're reading this, my song suggestion is Roxette - Listen to your Heart. Lovely, meaningful song that I think you could pull of nicely. Just a thought.

Top 6!!!

To all those naysayers and doubters; I give you one big raspberry: DBBHHHHH!!!

Our sweet little girl from Bloem has done it - she's through to the Top Half of the Top 12 (for those not particularly mathematical that's the Top 6). Thanks to some sterling performances over the past few weeks Nicky has cemented her position in the Top 6.

Nice performance from Nicky this evening, unfortunately though I think the song was a little too big for her (Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It). I hope the voting public disagrees with the latter, but sadly I think this weeks elimination is between her and Kesha. Although Ayanda's performance wasn't too hot either - and from the numerous polls on the net it appears she has a smaller support base than both Nicky and Kesha - I still think our Wildcard Child's run is nearing its untimely end. Prove me wrong people!
